The Mary Morenko Memorial Scholarship was established by Mary’s son and daughter in loving memory of her dedication to her family and the importance of education. The daughter of a local coal miner, Mary was a 1st generation American of a very poor immigrant family that settled in the Wyoming Valley for a better life. Mary was raised in Edwardsville, PA and attended high school in the Wyoming Valley, now known as the Wyoming Valley West School District.
The Mary Morenko Memorial Scholarship shall be a one-year award with the eligibility to reapply annually and compete with the field of applicants.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
- Must be female resident of Edwardsville, Kingston, Pringle, and Plymouth, PA (must be a permanent/full-time resident of any of these towns for at least two-years prior to application);
- Must be a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, or home schooled with a certificate of graduation;
- Must plan to attend an accredited institution of post-high school education as a full-time student to earn a college degree or certificate from an accredited technical or vocational training program;
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 for the last two years of high school;
- Must demonstrate financial need.
