Guest gather for the 11th annual Christmas party hosted by the Brian Cashmere Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee at the Jones Insurance Group building on Pittston’s Main Street on Friday. The Brian Cashmere Memorial Scholarship Fund was formed by members of the Pittston Area Class of 2002 to give scholarships to deserving Pittston Area graduates, in the honor of Pittston Area student Brian Cashmere, who died in 2002. Cashmere was described as an outstanding student and athlete and an exceptional friend. The committee, with the help of The Luzerne Foundation has given away nine scholarships annually, each valued at $8,000. The fund also serves as a mentoring and guidance network for Pittston Area High School students by connecting volunteer mentors with current sophomores and juniors to give advice regarding college selection, preparation and application, SAT prep, financial aid application and choosing a major, among other topics.
