The Luzerne Foundation realizes that there are times when even an organization with as broad a reach as ours can benefit from working with others. The greater good can be served best when as many people and groups as possible are working together.

Never was that more evident than during the flooding of September 8th, 2011. During that hard time, everyone was called to action, and through collaboration with the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, The Luzerne Foundation, FEMA, and the United Ways, the first ever Disaster Recovery Coalition was formed.

One of the areas hardest hit by the flooding, Shickshinny, created Shickshinny Forward to address long term sustainability and regrowth. The Luzerne Foundation also helped to establish the Shickshinny Business Revolving Loan Fund to assist businesses in these efforts.

Collaboration also serves to make good things even better. The Luzerne Foundation was thrilled to transfer the RiverCommon.org fund to the Riverfront Parks Committee. The move unites activities held at the RiverCommon with existing events like RiverFest, Dragon Boat Racing, and fishing tournaments.

The Luzerne Foundation is also proud to help the people of Pike County as they establish their own community foundations, lending our expertise and support as they begin this exciting time.
