Chairman's Message

Dear Community Friends,

The Luzerne Foundation helps people create funds to do good things today and lasting good for tomorrow. It is a simple, personal and powerful way to give back to your community. For the last fifteen years, The Luzerne Foundation has, through unrestricted general funds and by being the steward of many other funds, met needs in our community and has made a difference in so many lives.

You probably know of two prominent funds of The Luzerne Foundation, the Fund for Luzerne County and the Millennium Circle. Your contributions to these funds have enabled The Luzerne Foundation to provide grants to the seven key areas we feel are essential for a growing and thriving community:

• Social Services
• Education and Scholarships
• Arts and Culture
• Neighborhoods and Community Development
• Youth Issues
• Historic Preservation and the Environment
• Health and Wellness

Members of The Millennium Circle annually present a large grant to a worthy organization in the community as voted on by the members of the Millennium Circle.

The Luzerne Foundation provides personal service, helping individuals, families, businesses, clubs and nonprofit organizations achieve their charitable giving goals. The Luzerne Foundation’s involvement can be as simple as referring a donor to a community nonprofit organization or as involved as working with a donor’s financial consultants, accountants and attorneys to establish a new fund and creating a family legacy.

The Luzerne Foundation is truly a community asset. The Foundation acts as a catalyst to bring diverse groups together to address local needs, foster greater giving and build endowments. Together we create a strong, enduring commitment that allows donors to feel secure that gifts given today will continue to serve the community for the long term.

Rusty Flack, our 2009 Mary Bevevino Community Service Award recipient, is the epitome of our theme – Together for the Greater Good. His contributions to our community are legion and include not only generous financial contributions, but also donations of his time and expertise to many organizations. Rusty deftly puts people and organizations together; he reaches out to find needed resources; and succeeds in creating a greater good in the process. As a founder, board member and board chairman of The Luzerne Foundation, Rusty has helped this organization achieve great things in the past 15 years. We thank him from the bottom of our hearts.
